It's All in the Image by Melani Weber
As I update these web pages every week, I am struck by the fact that even the 'quieter' scopes which get overlooked in favor of their flashier cousins have incredibly beautiful images. Here's just a few of my favorites: Now maybe I'm just being sentimental on this first one, but Janice Chesnik has been one of our scope artists for over 10 years for good reason. If you're looking for stained glass wheels Janice is the master. Beyond her elegant Stained Glass Wheels and Agate Stone Wheels, you can get the Fiesta Wheel Set, which features tiny millefiori glass compositions featuring flowers, faces, and more. What's more, you can buy extra wheel sets that will fit most of her scopes. When combined with solid two-mirror or three-mirror optics, these images are among some of the best in the business.
Ken and Dore Wilhoite are relatively new to Davlins, but they are not new to the scope world. Masters of the oil-filled object cell, their Freedom series features variations on an American flag theme. Their precise mirror system arrangements can be appreciated in the image photos above left, in which you can see very little distortion from one reflection to the next. In addition to the elegance of their images, the scopes themselves feature some of the smoothest cell-turning mechanics in the business.
A more recent artist that we've been rather impressed with is Paul & Susan Knox. Paul spent a couple of years refining his craft, inviting criticism of his scopes from artists and retailers alike, and the results have been impressive. The Knoxes have created a system of fine crafted wood scopes and named object cells schemes that allows you to practically create your own scope. On his larger scopes, like the Fantasy Vision, you can even get additional cells to interchange. The images above (Sprig-O-Pine from the Dream Catcher series, and Utter Exhilaration and Sunset Boulevard from the Oasis series) are just a sampling of the many themes available. So these are just a few of the many talented individuals who are creating scopes today. We hope their work inspires you as much as it has inspired us!
