“For the Love of Color” is a new series of hand held kaleidoscopes being by Shelley Knapp of Knapp Studios. New for this series are the anodized aluminum end pieces, which match with her signature marbleized painted barrel for each color combination. A signed and numbered open edition, this series features four scopes: Pastelation and Mezoptica (Sold Out) have fluid filled object cells, while Internal Combustion and Glowee (Sold Out) have free-falling object cells. All four kaleidoscopes incorporate the use of dichroic filters in the object cells with black backgrounds. The images are created with a six-point two-mirror system and are enhanced with magnification lenses. The ends of the object cells have been ornamented on Randy’s hand-built Rose Engine lathe. The design of each object cell is individually cut on the lathe, giving Shelley the opportunity to have two distinct looks, one for the fluid and one for the free falling object cells.
Pastelation

Pastelation has a purple marbleized barrel with matching purple anodized aluminum trim. It has a fluid filled object cell with a black background and dichroic filters. The pastel image inside has been created by hand lamp worked Italian glass by Shelley. She has also included a touch of dichroic glass and 2 “Stringerinies”, a technique that she developed over 10 years ago. The formation of each new six pointed vision is intensified with magnification and truly breathe taking.

Internal
Combustion was inspired by bonfires on the beach. The warmth and rich colors
created by the flames were Shelley’s inspiration for the images. Some of the
hand lamp worked glass has been frosted to create a glowing affect. She has also
included hand lamp worked dichroic glass to enhance the image. “Internal
Combustion is a free falling object cell with a black background and dichroic
filters. The kaleidoscope has an orange marbleized barrel with a matching
orange anodized metal trim which houses a six pointed mirror system.
