What's New
Our Scope System Guide page now has a
linked list at the top of the page to enable you to quickly find a
particular mirror system/object cell combination. This page is also updated with
every new scope that we add to an individual artist's page, so it's another
great place to scope out what's new!
If
you're a true connoisseur of the kaleidoscope image, you won't want to miss our
new article, It's All in the Image, on some
of the talented scope makers who hide incredible images behind subtle exteriors.
I've
actually put up some new images and scopes on the
Imagine the Image Game on the
Games Page! I know, I know, it's been a while.
But we have so many new scopes that I just had to update it!
TEACHERS AND STUDENTS: See our F.A.Q.'s page (Frequently Asked
Questions) for information on how scope and mirror systems work, and our Resources page for books on making your own scopes.
NOTE: We do not have any more information than you see on
the F.A.Q.'s page or our Resources page.
BEGINNING ARTISTS: See our Resources page for books and suppliers. NOTE: We do
not have any more information than you see on the Resources page.

you're in the mood for a little fun, try out our new

Interested in photographing the interiors of your
scopes? We've added a page under the heading of Scope
Photography F.A.Q.'s to address all of your questions in this area. Not that
we'll be able to answer them all, mind you. But we've included an excerpt from an
article by Dave Moser and a few tips of our own on taking digital scope
photographs to help you along as best we can. (It should be obvious, though, from some of
the fuzzy photos on this site that we don't know everything about Scope
Photography...yet!)
We've created a page that shows some of the Limited Editions which are available to us. Now as the
name implies, these scopes will be available for a limited time only,
but we hope to keep adding new Editions as artists introduce them. We're
thrilled to show these incredible works. Take a look!
I recently found an excellent article in an old Brewster
Society Newsletter written by Judith Paul.
She is an art conservator by profession, in addition to being a scope collector and
artist, so she gives a few insights into all these fields in "Modern Kaleidoscopes -- Collecting and Investing."
We've reprinted the article with permission as part of our F.A.Q.'s
area.

Want to turn a picture of your kids into some kaleidoscopic
wallpaper for your computer? A new shareware program called Silicon Mirror (free download, $21.00
registration fee) can turn any digital image into a 4-, 6-, 8-, or 12-point image tile.
You can then use the tile as a picture in its own right, or tile it across your screen or
web page as wallpaper. In the sample above I used a picture of Judith Paul's Vegetarian
Scope (far left in the scope photo) as my starting point. Then I made a 6-point tile from
the part of the photo that features a bright red tomato. (Other tiles made from this same
photo: Veggie-12 pt, 'Spring
Romance' Flowers.)
If you know what you want to see on the INSIDE of a scope visit
our new Scope System Guide. It breaks down our
selection into Two- and Three-Mirror scopes, Oil-Filled or Free-Fall Cells, etc. Of
course, there are plenty of image pictures, too!
Our Price Guide
has now been extended to include a list of scopes in the $150.00 - $200.00 range (For all
you big spenders out there!)
Our Game Page has a
new offering for all you scope addicts out there. Can you guess all the artists whose
scope images are featured on the front of Cozy Baker's new book, Kaleidoscopes, Wonders of Wonder?
Unfortunately, we do not employ Dick Clark or Ed McMahon, so your prize options (if you
guess them all correctly) are limited to our hearty congratulations on a job well done,
and, uh...that's about it. But we're sure you'll be able to impress all your friends
and neighbors in the scope community, though!
Are you an artist who'd like to show some scopes in our stores?
Your best bet is to enter some in our National Kaleidoscope
Exhibit in August. We'll take entries right up until the end of July!
(We would like them sooner, however, so we can promote you!) Go to our new Artist Info Page for more details and an Entry Form.
Looking for a scope in a certain price range? Our new Price Guide gives you a helping hand, listing most of
our scopes by price, with links to the artist pages.
For our latest ideas on taking pictures of the images inside
of a scope, visit our F.A.Q.'s page.
